Speaker Details

Laura Solano is a Dairy Cattle Comfort and Welfare Specialist in the Innovation and Development Team at Lactanet, the producer organization that delivers herd management and milk recording tools, genetic evaluations, and knowledge transfer services to dairy farmers across Canada.

Laura uses veterinary, applied research, and agricultural extension approaches to deliver practical, evidence-based tools and programs for producers and their advisors. Her focus is on optimizing cow health, welfare, and performance by improving their management and housing environments. Laura’s specialty is in hoof health, cow comfort and behaviour. In addition to her role in Lactanet, she is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary, where she completed her PhD in 2016. When not probing the puzzle of cows’ hoof health, Laura enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, especially escaping Canadian winters to a sandy beach in Costa Rica, her native country.
